My consulting experiences are deep and varied. I was selected as a Communication Consultant by hospital leaders and peers to help physicians and nurses in all disciplines with their communication skills. In this role (2013-2022), numerous individuals benefited from my skills and expertise, as I helped them better relate to their patients and greatly improve their performance on PX surveys. I also helped them find more joy and meaning in their work.
I served as a consultant for the innovative company ePocrates at its founding. I helped them with product development, design, and their deliverables, all which allowed them to gain market dominance. A short news article included a discussion of my efforts for this start-up. I have also been a consultant for a forward-thinking orthopedic recovery device for use at home following surgery that has had tremendous success. I currently am an expert consultant for GLGinsights for many novel education, AI, and product companies.
I have consulted for Telehealth care delivery systems, as well as for three national EM Residency Programs during their development. Based on my success with our EM Residency Program, I served as a consultant on curriculum development, planning, and design. One recent focus has been participating as a consultant to develop a curriculum to improve and make safe the use of AI in healthcare delivery, education, and training.
I presently serve on several national AI, healthcare technology, patient care & patient experience, workflow efficiency, mentoring, education, and workplace violence committees. I consult, teach, and educate others on communication skills, including conflict management, conflict resolution, and negotiation. These consulting experiences have in part been strengthened given my leadership experiences, research, teaching, and publications. I currently serve as an independent consultant for Stedman's Medical Dictionary (part of Wolters Kluwer) since 2018.
